Attention Zen course attendees!
It is important that you are prepared for your first class and each one thereafter, so this post is to remind you of materials needed and information to help you prepare for the course.
Materials:
- Calligraphy brush (see email for link)
- Calligraphy paint (see email for link)
- Paintbrush
- Paper
- Notebook
- Pencil
- Working camera and microphone
Please note if you do not come to class prepared or with the necessary materials, you cannot be graded and may be removed from the class or course.
Preparation:
- Frequently check this section of the forum in order to stay on top of up to date information regarding anything related to the Zen course. https://www.scarboroughkaratedo.com/forum/zen-course
- Look at the dojo calendar for class schedule and a potential outing. Everyone is expected to attend the in person excursion if one is scheduled. Parents are welcome!
- Materials will be required for the final assignment which can be obtained from the dollar store and are cost effective but must be gathered ahead of time. More information will be provided in the coming weeks.
- Use the link below to join the Zen course. Be 10 minutes early and ensure you are at a work station with ample space for calligraphy, writing and painting. Don't be late! "Technical difficulties" will not be a valid excuse and you may not be permitted into class if you are late.

- Ensure that you are fully shown on camera as I will be not only assessing your work but also your participation and attentiveness. Just as in class, if you need to be dismissed, please inform me first.
- 4:30 - 5:45 PM is the timeslot but some classes may exceed this so prepare an extra 15 minutes if possible past 5:45.
Contact me ahead of time for absences or any questions. Reference the Zen course email sent on April 30th for additional information as well.
- You do not need to be dressed in your gi.
- Be mindful that only one absence is permitted during this years Zen course in order to be able to successfully complete the course. More details regarding successful course completion will be discussed in our first class. If you do happen to miss a class, it is your responsibility to get caught up from a fellow classmate in order to not fall behind.
- Contact me via email at anytime with any questions or feel free to post in this forum and anyone may contribute to helping out.
Be prepared!
Sensei
